Maharana Pratap is not only the pride of Mewar but of the whole of India. For the freedom and self-respect of his state, he left his happy life and spent his life fighting the Mughal army by living among the general public.

Today we will visit the place of coronation of Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap and know how the condition of this place is now. So let's get started.

History of Maharana Pratap coronation

Maharana Pratap's Rajtilak Sthal is the historical place where Maharana Pratap was coronated and Kunwar Pratap Singh became the Maharana of Mewar.

The coronation of Maharana Pratap also has an interesting story. Actually, in Vikram Samvat 1629 i.e. 28 February 1572, Maharana Udai Singh died on the full moon day of Phalgun Shukla Paksha, on the day of Holi.

According to the tradition of the Mewar royal family, the eldest son did not participate in the cremation, but Kunwar Pratap broke this practice and attended the funeral of Maharana Udai Singh.

Maharana Pratap's younger brother Kunwar Jagmal took advantage of Maharana Pratap's absence from the palace and declared himself the ruler of Mewar.

Later, when the feudatories of Mewar came to know about this, they objected to it.

All the Samantas discussed among themselves and accepted Kunwar Pratap, the eldest son of Maharana Uday Singh as Maharana, according to the prevalent practice.

Later Kunwar Pratap was enthroned by making him sit on this Mahadev Bawdi. Thus the coronation of Maharana Pratap took place on 28 February 1572 AD.

Travel and specialty of Maharana Pratap's coronation site

Today even after almost 450 years have passed, both the Mahadev Bawdi and the Shiv Mandir are at their place as they were at the time of Maharana Pratap. At that time the water of this stepwell was used for drinking purpose.

There are four cenotaphs built at the four corners of this stepwell. Out of these four cenotaphs, a statue of Maharana Pratap is installed in one cenotaph near the temple.

The cenotaph with the statue of Maharana Pratap is the place where Maharana Pratap was seated and his coronation was done.

Seeing the statue of Maharana Pratap, one feels as the coronation of Maharana Pratap is happening in front of you. You start feeling Maharana Pratap in front of you.

The stepwell is filled with water, but people tell that now the water of this stepwell is not used for drinking purposes. By the way, looking at the color of the water, it seems that maybe it is not fit for drinking now.

There is a Shiva temple built next to the stepwell. This temple, which rests on many pillars, looks ancient by its texture.

Maharana Pratap used to worship Bholenath in this temple. The idols of Ganesha and Lord Vishnu are also present inside the temple.

Four faced Shivling and Nandi's statue is present right in front of the temple. Looking at these statues, it seems that they are very ancient and the effect of time is clearly visible on them.

Looking at these idols, it seems that these idols are not the original idols of this Shiva temple, because the temple must have been renovated along with the time.

This Mahadev Bawdi and Shiva temple was built during the period of Maharana Kheta i.e. Maharana Kshetra Singh. Later Maharana Mokal and Maharana Udai Singh got them renovated.

There is an old room next door. It is written outside this room that Maharana Pratap had done penance for years in this temple. A dhuna is made outside it.

There is a temple of Hanuman ji built nearby. This temple is not of the time of Maharana Pratap. It is made later.

There are some cenotaphs built around the temple. It is not clear that who made these cenotaphs. Perhaps the members of the royal family must have had umbrellas.

Development of Maharana Pratap's coronation site

A complete garden has been developed in front of the coronation site. In fact, in the year 2007, the State Government had sanctioned 6 crores 76 lakhs rupees.

With this money, the garden was developed along with the renovation of the stepwell, an amphitheater with a circular staircase for the audience to sit.

Along with this, big statues of Maharana Pratap and Rana Poonja were installed and boundary wall was made around the place of coronation.
