Maharana Pratap's name is recorded in the history of India for his independence and self-respect. To maintain this self-respect, on 18 June 1576, a war took place between Maharana Pratap and Akbar's army on the land of Haldighati.

This war holds an important place in Indian history. Whenever someone visits Udaipur, he definitely goes to pay respects to the land of Haldighati.

Today we will tell you what you have to see if you go to Haldighati, i.e. which are the tourist places worth seeing in Haldighati.

As you know that Haldighati area is the place where the war took place between Maharana Pratap and Akbar's army, hence the main place worth seeing at this place is the war site and the monuments associated with it. All these sites are spread over an area of approximately six kilometers.

These war-related tourist places worth seeing include Rakt Talai, Badshahi Bagh, Original Pass of Haldighati, Maharana Pratap Cave, Chetak Samadhi, Chetak Nala, Maharana Pratap Memorial. There is no ticket charge at all these places i.e. it is free.

A few years ago, Maharana Pratap Museum was also built, which is a private museum. There is a ticket for entry into this.


On hearing the name Haldighati, the first question that comes to our mind is why is this place called Haldighati? Does this place have any connection with turmeric?

In fact, the color of the soil found in the rocks and valleys in the entire area of Haldighati is yellow like turmeric, due to which it is known as Haldighati.

Location of Haldighati near Khamnore


If we talk about the location of Haldighati, then this place is the land spread over five to six kilometers located near Khamnaur town in Rajsamand district, on which there was a war between the army of Maharana Pratap and Akbar.

If you come to Haldighati from Udaipur then the total distance is around 45 kilometers and if you come to Haldighati from Nathdwara then the total distance is around 17 kilometers.

If you are coming to Haldighati from Udaipur then you should first see Chetak Samadhi, Chetak Nala, Maharana Pratap Memorial, then Maharana Pratap Cave, then the original pass of Haldighati, then Badshahi Bagh and finally Rakta Talai inside Khamnore town.

Chetak Memorial or Chetak Samadhi


When you come towards Haldighati from Udaipur, the first place you come across is the Samadhi of Maharana Pratap's horse Chetak at a place called Balicha. This mausoleum is situated on the left side on the main road.

Chetak Samadhi is the place where Maharana Pratap's horse Chetak was cremated after his death. This is a monument which was built in the memory of Chetak.


Next to this monument, there is a nearly six hundred years old temple of Bholenath Shiva. You can have darshan of Bholenath here.

Maharana Pratap Memorial and Chetak Nala


Maharana Pratap Memorial is built on the hill in front of Chetak Samadhi. While going to this monument, there is Chetak nala on the left side of the way.

This is the 22 feet wide drain which Chetak crossed in one jump with Maharana Pratap sitting on his back.


On top of the hill from here, there is Maharana Pratap Memorial where there is a big statue of Maharana Pratap sitting on Chetak. Valleys are visible far and wide from the hills.

Maharana Pratap Museum


While coming down, if you wish, you can see Pratap Museum. It depicts events related to the life of Maharana Pratap and the battle of Haldighati.

Maharana Pratap Gufa (Cave)


When you go ahead on the road from Chetak Samadhi, Maharana Pratap Cave is situated on the right side. In this cave, Maharana Pratap sits with his associates and prepares strategy.


Haldighati Real Darra (Pass)


Haldighati pass starts on the left side at a turn ahead of Pratap Cave. There is an inscription at this place and a board is also attached to it.

Most of the tourists ignore this place and move ahead whereas the original pass of Haldighati starts from here. There is a gate at the back side to enter the pass. The total length of the pass is about one and a half to two kilometers.


You can see the pass by going inside a little but if you are not in a group then we advise that you should not go too deep into this pass because it is a wild area and there may be wild animals here.

Going further from here, there is a road cutting through the valley. Most of the people consider this place as the pass of Haldighati whereas the real pass is left behind.

You can stop here and see the soil of Haldighati. The color of the soil here will appear yellow like turmeric.

You should understand that the color of soil in Haldighati area is yellow everywhere. If you go further to the original pass, you will see yellow soil on both sides.

Badshahi Bag or Shahi Garden


After coming down from the valley, Badshahi Bagh is situated on the right side about one and a half kilometer ahead. This is the place where Emperor Akbar's army camped during the battle of Haldighati.

Rakt Talai or Rakt Taal


About two and a half kilometers ahead of Badshahi Bagh, there is a place called Rakt Talai inside Khamnaur town. This is the place where the army of Maharana Pratap and Akbar had come while fighting.

So much blood was shed in the war that a pond of blood was formed in this blood pond. Because of this pond of blood this place was named Rakt Talai. Now a permanent pond has been made at the place of that pond.


In Rakt Talai, the chhatris of Jhala Man Singh and Ram Shah Tanwar along with their three sons are built. Along with this, the tomb of Hakim Khan Sur is built inside. All these people had sacrificed their lives fighting on behalf of Maharana Pratap.

So now you must have understood that this is the main place to see in Haldighati.

Along with these places in Haldighati, the rose water here is also quite famous. This rose water is made from Chaitri roses, many of whose shops are located in front of Badshahi Bagh.
