Rajsamand is a city in Rajasthan which has many historical heritages in its lap. Once upon a time it was known as Rajnagar. This was the time when Mewar was ruled by Maharana Raj Singh.

Maharana Raj Singh had built a palace called Rajmandir on a hill here for his stay in Rajnagar. The temple of Annapurna Mata is located in this palace and currently the VHF control room is located here.

Among the other heritage sites located on the hill, Ruthi Rani's palace is prominent. Besides, the famous Dargah of Hazrat Mamu Bhanez is also situated here.

At present, the restoration work of these two palaces located on this hill as well as its ramparts is going on.

It seems that after renovation, this place will also be able to attract tourists from India and abroad like the tourist places of Udaipur.

Earlier one had to come on foot to reach these palaces, but now a paved road has been made to reach here.

The main attraction here is the palace of Maharana Raj Singh. This palace is not as huge and grand as the palaces of Udaipur but as it is, it is unique in itself.

The ancient statue of Hanumanji is situated just outside the palace. There is a small garden around it from where the surrounding natural scenery can be admired.

As soon as you enter the palace, there is a big square in front which is known as Kamal Chowk. A multi-storey palace like building is constructed in front of this square.

There are decorated windows with carvings in this building. Such ornate windows are also built all around the exterior of the palace.

There is a water pond for drinking water on the right side. There are life-size statues of two women outside this water pond. The surrounding complex is covered with a latticed wall with stone carvings.

A little ahead of this is the path to a tunnel-like cave. We could not find out where this cave originates.

From Kamal Chowk, a path leads to another chowk. There are chambers built all around this square. Many rooms are simple and many rooms are of little grandeur.

In Kamal Chowk, after climbing the stairs in front, there is a temple of Annapurna Mata in a room on the left side. There is a grand idol of Mother Goddess in this temple.

It is noteworthy that Annapurna Mata has been worshiped as its favorite goddess by the Sisodiya dynasty of Mewar since the time of Maharana Hammir.

The temple of Annapurna Mata in Rajsamand has great recognition. Devotees come here regularly to bow their heads and fulfill their wishes.

On the back side of the palace, there is a Dargah of Hazrat Mamu Bhanez from the time of Rana Raj Singh. There are two graves of maternal uncle and nephew in this dargah.

Both these graves are said to be of two Muslim warriors. There is great faith in this Dargah in the Muslim community.

There is an ancient door at some distance from the palace. After renovation, this door has now lost its old glory.

Going further from here, a grand Nau Chowki situated on Rajsamand Lake is visible. On the distant hill, the cities of Rajsamand and Kankroli along with the fort of Dayal Shah are visible.

The effort to bring the ramparts and towers back to their historical form seems to be successful. Because of these, the beauty of this place is enhanced.

Going a little further, there is a view point from where Ruthi Rani's palace is visible. This place becomes very pleasant during the rainy season.

Ruthi Rani's palace is located near the parking lot. There is a road to reach here also. This palace was built by Maharana Raj Singh for his queen.

It is said that whenever a queen was upset, she used to come and stay in this palace. It can also be called a type of Kop Bhawan. Earlier this palace was in ruins which has now been completely renovated.

After renovation, it has lost its antiquity. When seen from a distance, it now looks less like a palace and more like a hotel.

Overall, it is a wonderful tourist destination which can add to the historical fame of Rajsamand in the future.
